Baobab Trees

Perhaps the most striking feature of Tarangire is its striking baobab trees, usually referred to as "upside-down trees." These giants dot the landscape and create a surreal atmosphere. The baobabs give shelter to wildlife and a perfect backdrop for photography, especially when the sun sets behind them.

Tarangire River

The Tarangire River is the lifeblood of the park, flowing year-round and attracting a variety of wildlife, particularly during the dry season when water is scarce. You can witness large congregations of elephants, giraffes, zebras, and wildebeest around the river, making it an excellent spot for game viewing.

The Seasons

Dry Season

June - October

The dry season spans from June to October, with peak wildlife activity occurring between July and September.

This is the best time for game viewing as animals gather around the few remaining water sources, such as the Tarangire River. Large herds of elephants, zebras, and buffalo dominate the landscape, while predators like lions and leopards lurk nearby. The sparse vegetation makes wildlife spotting easier, and the clear skies and cooler temperatures create ideal conditions for safaris. Photographers and wildlife enthusiasts will find this season unmatched for its concentration of animals and breathtaking scenery.

Wet Season

November - May

The wet season runs from November to May, with the heaviest rains typically occurring from March to May.

During this season, the park transforms into a lush green haven teeming with life. Migratory birds flock to Tarangire, making it a paradise for birdwatchers, while the calving season for herbivores like wildebeest and gazelles draws predators for dramatic wildlife interactions. Though the rains can make some areas harder to access, the stunning greenery, vibrant flowers, and absence of crowds provide a serene and unique safari experience for those seeking something different.
